Kristin and I have debated this subject for a long time. With Pat's opinion posted on the matter, time for mine. IMHO, Pete Rose, the player, deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. Now before I get jumped on about this let me explain. The Hall of Fame is full of players who had a less then stellar lives outside of baseball. There are plently of drug addicts, alcolholics, wife beaters, etc. who are in the Hall of Fame. But for some reason, the voters chose to put them in based on their "on-field" prowess. Yes Pete Rose, the MANAGER, lied. It was obvious. If he just would have come clean along time ago, he would have been in the Hall. Do I think he should be involved in baseball in any capacity outside of the Hall of Fame?? Absolutely not. No, I don't agree with his timing either. He took the spotlight away from Eck and Molitor. I agree with the article that Pat posted. Put him in the Hall, but disgrace his plaque by telling about the whole lying bit. Also, induct him, but don't give him a ceremony and don't ever let him physically enter the building. That would be just punishment. But Pete Rose the player deserves to be in the Hall, even if that player doesn't exist anymore.
Another rant about the Hall.......why the hell isn't Ryne Sandberg in the Hall of Fame yet???? He was only the premier second baseman for a decade. Put him in.
