Well, I've been labeled the "jock" of my graduate class. Not sure how this label got pinned on me, but here's how it came to be:
For my graduate writing class, one of our assignments is a portfolio of writings. The portfolio consists of three different pieces of writing: a character piece, a previous paper that you revise, and a persuasive letter. We turn in each one, and he critiques it, edits, and hands it back to you for revising. You then turn it in for a final grade. I did my character piece on my friend Ty. He handed them back last night. While handing them back, he said that he was pretty impressed with our writing skills as a group. He even said that three of them were so good that he just assigned the grade, and those people don't have to submit another draft. Two of the three were by people who have already written books. And the other.......mine. When he handed it back to me, he went on to say how I come across as a jock, but that he was very suprised to realize how good of a writer I am. I wasn't sure how to take that comment. I kind of took it as a back handed slap. I asked the girl who I sit next to how that comment came across. She said since I always come to class from the gym, and since I like sports that I give out a jock vibe. Oh well. Anyway, I'm not sure where my new found writing skill has come from. I was never a good writer in high school or college. For some reason I was the only person in my management overview class that got an A on our first paper as well. Who knows!
I just read what my wife wrote in her blog about us. She's right. We blend together very well. Personality wise, we are complete opposites. I find this a good thing. I calm her down a bit (hard to imagine huh!), and she brings me out of my shell a bit more. A week from today will be our four year wedding anniversary. I glad to say I married my best friend! Things were a bit dicey when we first moved in together in college, but we got through it and became much closer. We've helped each other through some rough times and have always come out together on the other side.
Enough of the sappy stuff (just kidding dear!), it's Nome 2005 time. Although it's a little late, we are having our annual event in Orr, MN at our friend's cabin. Horse shoes, bocce ball, and the new event......Texas Hold 'Em. I've never personally played Texas Hold 'Em, but I've seen it on TV and know the rules. It should be interesting.
